Effect of ultraviolet irradiation and chlorination on ampicillin-resistant

Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering 2016, Volume 10, Issue 3,   Pages 522-530 doi: 10.1007/s11783-015-0779-9

Abstract: Antibiotic resistance is a serious public health risk that may spread via potable and reclaimed water. Effective disinfection is important for inactivation of antibiotic-resistant bacteria and disruption of antibiotic resistance genes. Ampicillin is a widely prescribed antibiotic but its effectiveness is increasingly undermined by resistance. In this study, changes in ampicillin resistance for ( ) CGMCC 1.1595 were analyzed after exposure to different doses of ultraviolet (UV) or chlorine, and damage incurred by the plasmid encoding ampicillin resistance gene was assessed. We reported a greater stability in ampicillin-resistant CGMCC 1.1595 after UV irradiation or chlorination when compared with previously published data for other strains. UV irradiation and chlorination led to a shift in the mortality frequency distributions of ampicillin-resistant when subsequently exposed to ampicillin. The ampicillin hemi-inhibitory concentration (IC ) without disinfection was 3800 mg·L , and an increment was observed after UV irradiation or chlorination. The IC of ampicillin-resistant was 1.5-fold higher at a UV dose of 40 mJ·cm , and was 1.4-fold higher when exposed to 2.0 mg·L chlorine. These results indicate that UV irradiation and chlorination can potentially increase the risk of selection for strains with high ampicillin resistance. There was no evident damage to after 1–10 mg Cl ·L chlorination, while a UV dose of 80 mJ·cm yielded a damage ratio for of approximately 1.2-log. Therefore, high UV doses are required for effective disruption of antibiotic resistance genes in bacteria.

Abstract: The method is an effective approach for attenuating the effect of disturbances on practical systems, but it is difficult to obtain the ler due to the nonlinear Hamilton–Jacobi–Isaacs equation, even for linear systems. This study deals with the design of an ler for linear discrete-time systems. To solve the related game algebraic Riccati equation (GARE), a novel model-free method is developed, on the basis of an offline algorithm, which is shown to be Newton’s method for solving the GARE. The proposed method, which employs off-policy , learns the optimal control policies for the controller and the disturbance online, using only the state samples generated by the implemented behavior policies. Different from existing -learning methods, a novel gradient-based policy improvement scheme is proposed. We prove that the method converges to the saddle solution under initially admissible control policies and an appropriate positive learning rate, provided that certain persistence of excitation (PE) conditions are satisfied. In addition, the PE conditions can be easily met by choosing appropriate behavior policies containing certain excitation noises, without causing any excitation noise bias. In the simulation study, we apply the proposed method to design an load-frequency controller for an electrical power system generator that suffers from load disturbance, and the simulation results indicate that the obtained load-frequency controller has good disturbance rejection performance.

<i>RR1i> and <i>RR2i> gene deletion affects the immunogenicity of a live attenuated pseudorabies

Frontiers of Agricultural Science and Engineering 2016, Volume 3, Issue 1,   Pages 81-86 doi: 10.15302/J-FASE-2016088

Abstract: As virulence-determining genes, and encode the small subunit and large subunit of viral ribonucleotide reductase (RR) in pseudorabies virus which have been extensively studied in mice. However, their role in pigs has not been adequately investigated. In this study, we deleted and genes based on a / / triple gene-deleted pseudorabies virus and tested its efficacy in pigs as a vaccine candidate. The rescued virus showed similar growth properties and plaque size as its parent strain. In an animal study, the virus could elicit humoral immune responses shown by generation of gB-specific antibodies and virus neutralizing antibodies. However, vaccination could not provide protection against virulent pseudorabies virus challenge since vaccinated pigs showed clinical pseudorabies-specific syndromes. The deficiency in protection may due to the generation of late and low levels of gB antibodies and virus neutralizing antibodies.

Frontiers in Energy 2021, Volume 15, Issue 1,   Pages 4-13 doi: 10.1007/s11708-020-0804-y

Abstract: Low NO combustion of blended coals is widely used in coal-fired boilers in China to control NO emission; thus, it is necessary to understand the formation mechanism of NO and H S during the combustion of blended coals. This paper focused on the investigation of reductive gases in the formation of NO and H S in the reductive zone of blended coals during combustion. Experiments with Zhundong (ZD) and Commercial (GE) coal and their blends with different mixing ratios were conducted in a drop tube furnace at 1200°C–1400°C with an excessive air ratio of 0.6–1.2. The coal conversion and formation characteristics of CO, H S, and NO in the fuel-rich zone were carefully studied under different experimental conditions for different blend ratios. Blending ZD into GE was found to increase not only the coal conversion but also the concentrations of CO and H S as NO reduction accelerated. Both the CO and H S concentrations inblended coal combustion increase with an increase in the combustion temperature and a decrease in the excessive air ratio. Based on accumulated experimental data, one interesting finding was that NO and H S from blended coal combustion were almost directly dependent on the CO concentration, and the CO concentration of the blended coal combustion depended on the single char gasification conversion. Thus, CO, NO , and H S formation characteristics from blended coal combustion can be well predicted by single char gasification kinetics.

Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering 2014, Volume 8, Issue 4,   Pages 471-477 doi: 10.1007/s11705-014-1449-3

Abstract: Lithium -MnO ion-sieves were prepared from spinel LiMn O via treatment with nitric acid. The LiMn O was synthesized by a solid state reaction between LiOH·H O and MnO . The effects of the calcination time and temperature on the preparation of the LiMn O precursor and the lithium ion-sieve were investigated. In addition, the Li extraction ratio, the Mn dissolving ratio and the adsorption properties of the lithium ion-sieve were all measured. The lithium ion-sieve had a high exchange capacity and was selective for Li . Specifically, at pH= 13, the ion exchange capacity of Li was 30.9 mg/g in 10 mmol/L LiCl solution and the lithium extraction ratio and manganese dissolving ratio were 95% and 25%, respectively.
